A Revival Heritage
African Revival Ministries (ARM)
The Legacy of a Grassroots Movement
Long before a formal church structure was ever envisioned, African Revival Ministries (ARM) was initiated not as an official institution, but as a raw, organic grassroots movement. Born out of a deep hunger for the uncompromised truth of God's Word, it began at the very foundational layers of society, among students, families, and everyday citizens who gathered in simplicity to seek the face of God. During the 1980s, under the faithful guidance of David and Ruth Ndaruhutse, ARM retained this pure grassroots identity even as it scaled into an evangelistic engine. It was an awakening that belonged to the people, driven by spontaneous house-to-house fellowships, campus ministries, and open-air gatherings where there were no rigid religious hierarchies. ARM functioned as a spiritual womb, quietly raising up and discipleship-strengthening a fierce core of leaders directly from the local soil, ensuring that the movement was fueled by genuine community transformation from the ground up.
Because this grassroots movement was answering a deep cry for regional restoration, the raw supernatural healing anointing operating through David and Ruth Ndaruhutse naturally overflowed into a practical rescue infrastructure for society. As thousands were spontaneously delivered from severe physical and mental afflictions without human hands touching them, a massive net was needed to care for and nurture the harvest. To support these vulnerable individuals and families whom traditional systems had completely abandoned, the movement established a network of church plantings, primary and secondary schools, Bible colleges, medical clinics, and dedicated residential centers for the physically and mentally marginalized. This compassionate infrastructure was never a substitute for the power of God, but a direct extension of it, a safe haven where the broken could find long-term dignity, education, and spiritual grounding while being anchored in the persistent presence of the Holy Spirit.
That original, unpretentious grassroots DNA remains the defining heartbeat of the ministry to this very day. Even as the movement expanded across East and Central Africa and eventually birthed a transcontinental footprint, it never lost its foundational simplicity. The power of ARM has always been its ability to keep the altar accessible to everyone, refusing to trade the intimacy of a people's movement for corporate complexity. Today, under the modern stewardship of Vivante Ministries, this enduring grassroots essence continues to shape how we operate. We believe that true, nation-shifting revival still starts in the small, everyday spaces where hearts link arms in purity. By honoring this heritage, ARM remains a living proof that the most powerful moves of the Holy Spirit are not manufactured from the top down, but are birthed as a grassroots fire that organically spreads from heart to heart, family to family, and nation to nation.
